Helicopter Believe it or not, there is a helicopter service in Bangkok to all part of the city
and into other provinces. Many city office buildings and condominiums do have helipads. The base is at
Don Muang International Airport.

Buses
With an extensive system through out the city, buses are a cheap way to get around the city.
There are several type of buses running in Bangkok:
City Buses: Rates for non-airconditioned buses are a flat rate of 3.5 Baht or 5 Baht, depending
on bus operator. Air-conditioned buses run from 8 Baht up to 24 Baht depending on distance. The
system maybe very confusing as there are a large number of lines, plus the fact it may be difficult
to find a English speaker riding the bus.
Airport Buses: An quick and easy way to get the airport, these buses every 15 minutes from
5am to midnight from city locations such as No. 1 Silom, No. 2 Sanam Luang, No. 3 Thong Lor,
and No. 4 Hua Lampong.
BTS Buses: The BTS Skytrain provides a bus shuttleing passengers to and from major locations in the
vicinity of most BTS starions. This services free, but tickets must be obtained from the BTS Ticket Counter.
Carre Four and Tesco Lotus Vans/Buses: These Hypermarkets provide transportation for their customers
in the area of each outlet. This is a free service and a ticket is not necessary. You don't even have to be a
customer. The difficulty is in trying to find where it stops along the way, as there is no signage indicating
a stop.

Taxi
Available 24 hours, Taxi are typically all metered. The flat rate is 35 Baht for the first 2 Km.,
and less than 5 Baht per each additional Km. Expressway tolls are to be paid by the passenger. Taxis
departing from the airport must pay a 50 Baht surcharge. Within the city limit, fares should not exceed 100 Baht.
Fares to airport can run up to 170 Baht.

Tuk Tuk
The "samlor" offers you an exciting ride through the city from a different prespective.
The fare must be settled by negotiating a suitable amount before commencing on your journey.
Rides should not exceed 200 Baht.
BTS Sky Train
The BTS runs through all the major commercial areas, with many station connecting directly into shopping
malls and office buildings. Quick and stress free means to get to most popular locations. If traveling in
groups of 3 or more, it would be cheaper to take a taxi. BTS runs until midnight on Sukumvit, Phayathai,
Silom and Sathorn. Easy way to get to Chao Phraya river and Jatjujak Weekend Market, which are quite a
distance from central Bangkok. Prices range from 10 Baht to 45 Baht per passenger. Special 3-day or 30-day
tickets are available at a discounted fare.
MRT Subway
Very similar to the BTS, the newly launched subway simply takes a different route from the BTS.
Runs from Jatujak Weekend market, down Lard Prao, Rachadapisek, Asoke, Rama 4 to Hualampong. It intersects
with the BTS Skytrain at Asoke and Silom. Again, if traveling in groups of 3 or more, it would be
cheaper to take a taxi. Prices range from 12 Baht to 32 Baht per passenger. Discounted fares are not yet
available.
River Taxi
A must see. This will give you a fresh wide open view of city that you couldn't get anywhere else.
Life on the river is very vibrant and genuine. A great value for 20 Baht, plus you can get from Sathorn
to Ratchdamneon in half the time compared to on-land travel.
Canal Taxi
A method used primarily by locals, as the route does not conveniently pass many major tourist or
commercial areas, the Canal Taxi runs in the Klong Saen Saeb. Klong being the term for Canal.
Originating from the Bangkapi residential area, it extends all the way to the Golden Mountain on
Rachadamnoen, passing Pratunam and running beside the New Petchburi Road. Fares will not exceed
20 Baht. Warning that this method does consume a lot of time as it makes frequent stops. Also the
stench from the canal may be difficult to handle for some people.
Before cars were introduced, the city of Bangkok was developed to utilized a system of canels to get
around the city. Bangkok is sometime called the "Venice of the East", due to this system, so in that
the elevation is close to sea level and often floods.
Car Rental
With a valid drivers license, a car can be rented with or without a chauffeurs starting at a
rate of 1,500 Baht per day.
Motorcycle Taxi
Used mainly for short trips, this can be a quick and economical way to get around the city. As
motorcycles can squeeze between stopped cars in traffic, they seem to have an express route to any destination.
Short trips of 1-2 Km. will start at 10 Baht. As you go farther, the rate will increase faster as it is not
beneficial for the driver to make the round trip back to his station. Most drivers will not make pick-ups
away from their base station. Fares should not exceed 100 Baht and is up to negotiation.
